A fun suspension bridge and secluded swimming holes. The trail, part of the Six Foot Track, winds through the Megalong Valley farmland down towards the Coxs River. It’s a well-formed track with a number of stiles, all nice and sturdy. It’s roughly a 3.5 km trek from Dryridge Estate to the bridge, and the return journey is mainly uphill, but not overly steep. It’s a beautiful spot for a hike, a swim and a picnic.

Getting there

Bowtells is best reached from the estate by driving south-west along Megalong Road (about 2 to 3 minutes) towards the historic Megalong Cemetery.

  • The full walk: park near the Megalong Cemetery on Megalong Road. Walk past the cemetery gate and follow the unsealed fire trail through open farmland along the Six Foot Track. It’s about 6 km to Bowtells.
  • A shorter walk: turn right into Aspinall Road and drive to Dryridge Estate. Park there and follow the Six Foot Track, about 3.5 km one way. You can sample some wines on your return: the cellar door is open on Saturday and Sunday.
