The car leaves the estate while the valley is still dark, so that by the time the escarpment opens out at Echo Point, the first light is doing all the work.

The estate arranges the transfer both ways, a straightforward drive that trades the Megalong’s close, folded hills for the wide, sudden drop of the Jamison Valley. There is a particular quiet to Echo Point before the tour buses arrive — just the three sandstone pillars, the mist still sitting in the gorge below, and whatever birds are awake enough to notice you.

For those wanting more than the lookout, the walking track down into the Jamison Valley is built into the morning — time enough to descend partway and see the Sisters rise overhead rather than out ahead of you, before the climb back up to the car for the return leg.

By the time the platforms fill with the day’s first coaches, the trip is usually on its way back to the estate — in time for a late breakfast, and the rest of the day still ahead of you.

Begin your story in the Valley.
